MEET OUR TEAM
In 2015 Tim and Sue-Jolie opened Prism: Global Holistic Healing; a not for profit organisation which supported their community focused approach to healing. In 2022, they relocated to France and have renamed their mission, Mi'kmaq Medicinal Arts. They are passionate about many things; trauma informed therapy, social justice, human rights, and protecting the environment. Their mission is to support people moving from a state of surviving to one of thriving through the lens of inclusivity, compassion, intersectionality, and harmony.
"We recognise in ourselves the way that dominant ideas about what type a person is seen as a potential caregiver or healer or professional simply replicates oppressive hierarchy. We stand firm in our beliefs that we do not heal or treat; we merely have the privilege of offering support and help. We innately know and believe that everyone is capable of healing themselves. We seek to resist colonial and commodifying practices of divorcing global indigenous, religious, spiritual, and holistic healing practices from their roots, in particular the roots of emotional and mental health modern-day practices. We recognise the power of our ancestor's practices with respect to their historical context and reject cultural appropriation of healing traditional."
Introducing your team
Sue-Jolie Rioux, CCTA
Co-Owner, Therapist and
Master Holistic Practitioner
After spending 2 years in early childhood development, Sue-Jolie pursued working within the family court system, supporting victims of domestic violence and standing in as liaison for young children during legal proceedings. Although she changed course professionally over the following 22 years, she continued on as a volunteer, mentoring and life coaching for over two decades, working with several organisations such as Dress for Success, The Pace Foundation, the Junior League, and For Our Daughters, Inc. There, she would conduct workshops for young women and single female heads of household on how to facilitate their own healing, own their voices, and step out from the shadows of personal and institutional environments that are abusive; all while reconnecting and steeping herself in her indigenous/earth-based medicinal practices. She decided to return to university and complete her second degree, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (with a minor in law) from the University of Miami.
She began to recognise that traditional western psychology was limited in its approach, and was rooted in a white, heteronormative paradigm. This influenced her to become certified in other holistic modalities such as Decolonized Psychology, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Shamanic Medicine, Usui Reiki Energy Healing, Frequency Therapy, Meditation, and Emotional Freedom Technique; forming a more inclusive, holistic, trauma informed, and intersectional perspective. Sue-Jolie focuses on teaching tools that help reprogram the mind, allowing for a new, healthier perspective which leads the patient into new frameworks of understanding, while teaching tools that help one self-regulate and heal the brain.
As a survivor of domestic violence and institutional abuse herself, she comes to the table with a personal perspective, allowing for a true understanding of where many who come to her are coming from, which results in trusting that they are entering a judgement free space, and one that is filled with compassion and love.
Timothy Boylan
Co-Owner, Therapist and
Master Holistic Practitioner
After working a little more than two decades in corporate America in the design field while volunteering as a youth coach and team leader, Tim decided to return to university to pursue a third degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Justice.
Here he began deconstructing and decolonizing himself from social constructs which are forced upon and detrimental to all peoples. Fully certified as a Master Practitioner in Shamanic Energy Medicine, Shamanic Life Coaching, Usui Reiki, Meditation, Sound Therapy, Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness, and Trauma-Informed Counseling - he offers a whole person perspective to his treatment style. Dedicating his life to rising above the patriarchal social norms that have plagued human culture, he is fully committed to helping others find a more fulfilling and healing-focused connection within themselves and their relationships. Surviving abuse himself and understanding trauma on a personal level, Tim comes to the table with high levels of compassion and understanding while ensuring his clients are comfortable and in a safe environment. Beyond his commitment to helping people on a one-on-one treatment basis, opening hearts and minds to new possibilities of growth and moving from surviving to thriving, Tim has worked in corporate settings to help rewrite their corporate scripts; ensuring a whole-human approach at these companies and changing the outdated not-human-but- capital mindset that harms people and debilitates businesses. He guides all of his clients to be kind, forgiving and loving to themselves and others. In order to achieve true and lasting results, he keeps goals simple and slowly adjusts them as the whole person heals and responds.
